7-Step Anti-Aging, Skin Care Tutorial:
STEP 1
The first step in your anti-aging skincare routine should be to start with an Exfoliator. An exfoliator like the Hibiscus Smoothing Mask. This is simply a thick white cream. It smells like active & essential ingredients… it doesn't smell like perfume.
So maybe the best way to apply is to use an extra makeup brush… often you will receive these as a free gift with a purchase, and you’re not sure what to do with them. Clean them from top to bottom and keep them for skincare application. Use the handle end [opposite of the brush end] to apply the cream to your face instead of using your fingers.
Now the Hibiscus Smoothing Mask is technically an enzymatic peel. Essentially when it comes to exfoliating you have two options; you have one that's more of a mechanical exfoliation… so think of a scrub product. And then you have enzymatic peels which use fruit enzymes to eat away the dead skin cells.
The Hibiscus Smoothing Mask is an enzymatic peel. So this is a type of exfoliator that you leave on the skin and then rinse off. So you don't have to massage, you don't have to manipulate any product, just leave this on your skin for three to ten minutes, and it will eat away all the dead skin cells.
There is this really slight tingling sensation. Don't worry it's fine. It's supposed to do that, but if it’s ever too much, just rinse it off.
Just by leaving this on your skin for 3-10 minutes, it will exfoliate. I know often we think that we need those harsh granules to really scrub and get rid of dirt, debris, and oil. But this sort of mask is actually more gentle, because you're not manipulating your skin really harshly. And oftentimes those scrubs can cause a redness. I’d suggest you apply the product even a bit lower probably onto your chest.
If you can, I would also recommend doing this before you get in the shower, that way you can just rinse it off in the shower quick and easy. So after anywhere from 5-10 minutes you probably don't feel that tingling sensation anymore. [That sensation lets you know that the mask is working and that it's eating all those dead skin cells.] Go ahead and wash this off.
STEP 2
After you've exfoliated you want to go in with a hydrating mask like the Jasmine & Lily Healing Mask. This one has a really cool texture, it's a little bit jiggly like a jello, or a pudding. This one also doesn't really have a fragrance… It just smells like the active ingredients. So clean off the makeup brush really well, because you don't want any product to be stuck in the bristles.
Then, go ahead and do the same thing as in Step 1, applying a pretty generous layer on your face. You essentially want to apply this everywhere you put your exfoliator. The theory is, first you exfoliate to get rid of the dead skin cells and then you hydrate. It doesn't really matter what type of mask you use… if it's a hydrating mask, a lifting mask, whatever. The mask goes over top, where you exfoliated.
Now you leave this mask on your skin for 10 to 20 minutes. You can even go to sleep with it on like other night creams. If you go to sleep, maybe apply a more sheer layer, and wake up to really nice & hydrated skin the next day.
So this mask is really effective at helping hydrate really dry skin. One thing you might notice when applying these masks with a brush— you may feel like you get a smoother application if you apply it in the same direction. If you brush every-which-way, the product kind of moves around, so just paint it on, in the same direction, and make sure to clean your brush immediately after using it.
You will start to feel the areas where your skin has soaked up more of the mask. There's certain areas where the mask looks thicker and thinner. Your skin is just taking what it needs. You’re going to let it do it's thing for 10-20 minutes, and then rinse this off. [You can technically leave this on for up to 20 minutes or overnight. Your skin will feel more refreshed, brighter, more awakened.]
STEP 3
It’s time to apply toner. You’re going to go ahead and use this Pure Rosewater. Pure Rosewater will feel refreshing and up-lifting. So go ahead and douse yourself liberally. If you are a fan of the Caudalie Beauty Elixir this is along that same line. I guess the difference between Caudalie and the Pure Rosewater is a mixture of different essential oils and Caudalie definitely has a stronger fragrance, whereas the Pure Rosewater is more subtle.
STEP 4
You should use a serum now. The Bio Lifting Serum+ will help firm and visibly smoothing fine lines. Since this is a lifting serum let me suggest you apply it in lifting motions. As you apply it, it starts to feel a little bit sticky, and tacky on the skin. That means, it is doing it's thing!
STEP 5
Now for the eyes, you should go into the Stress Repair Concentrate+ so normally the full size product comes with a little applicator tool to roll it onto the eyes, and you can also use this on the contour of your lips. This is supposed to be an anti aging cream for your eyes. It will hydrate, as well as reduce the appearance of puffiness, because there's caffeine in here.
Go ahead and apply it, to brighten up the under eye area. It will feel really nice, because it is pretty hydrating. The full size product comes with a little metal tool that will feel relaxing and help you massage it into your skin.
STEP 6
Next, go ahead and apply some moisturizer. Like, maybe the Rose de Mai Cream. It is the best anti aging moisturizer! This is a really lovely gel cream, it's not a very thick cream. It's definitely more in the gel category, and it has a really nice rose scent. This will help soften and hydrate your skin. So it should help with redness, as well as give your skin tone a luminous effect.
STEP 7
For the final step; the sunscreen. This is the Ultra Sun Protection Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 45 Primer. It's also technically a primer. So it has a lovely texture that literally just like melts into your skin. There is no white cast, oftentimes with sunscreens, you have this like, white film on your face, but not with this one here. It literally just sinks into your skin, as if it was water. That's probably why they call it a primer, because this sunscreen is perfect to wear if you want to wear makeup.
This sunscreen is amazing, the texture is so fluid. You know, oftentimes sunscreens, have a “sunscreen smell.” They have a “sunscreen cast,” and they're often thick, and hard to absorb into the skin. But this feels perfect. It's really, really light, it's really sheer. I think this is a wonderful sunscreen, especially if you like to wear makeup every day, and you want a sunscreen to wear underneath it.
And that’s it! Hooray!
RECAP
So just to recap; You’re going to really love the Hibiscus Smoothing Mask and the Jasmine & Lily Healing Mask, as well as the moisturizer face cream Rose de Mai Cream. They feel so lovely and soothing on the skin. As well as the sunscreen, the sunscreen is an amazing skin barrier!
